2011 District Team Cup and Marian Wood Baird Cup Results

Ohio Valley BG12 Team
The Ohio Valley team took home the Boys' and Girls District Team Cup
Kalamazoo College was the site of the 2011 Boys' 18 District Team Cup Competition. Chicago was impressive in the final match downing Central Indiana for the championship. Ohio Valley defeated South East Michigan for third place. For complete results, please click here .
 
The Marian Wood Baird Cup was held at the University of Illinois Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., for the second straight year. Chicago won the Marian Wood Baird Cup, defeating Southeastern Michigan in the finals. Ohio Valley took home third place, and Wisconsin finished fourth. Teams comprised of the best 18-and-under boys and girls from each of the Section’s 14 Districts participate in the annual events. In 2010, the Ohio Valley Tennis Association captured both the Boys’ 18 District Team Cup (formerly called Junior Davis Cup) for the fourth straight year and the Chicago District Tennis Association took home the Marian Wood Baird Cup (formerly called Junior Wightman Cup) crown.
 
Both of the events use a round-robin format. Following two days of round-robin competition, the top four finishers advanced to a playoff. Juniors competing on each district team are selected to participate based on their ranking, tournament play, character, and sportsmanship.
 
The USTA/Midwest Section Boys’ 18 District Team Cup (formerly Junior Davis Cup) event started in 1949. Each year the Tim and Mike Sheehan Sportsmanship Award is presented at the conclusion of the competition to a team based on the highest standards of character, conduct, sportsmanship, and appearance both on and off the court.
 
The USTA/Midwest Section Marian Wood Baird Cup (formerly Junior Wightman Cup) event began in 1950. The Rosemary Helton Sportsmanship Award is presented at the conclusion of the event to a team which best exemplifies sportsmanship, honor, cooperation and conduct, both on and off the court.  The 2001 Rosemary Helton Sportsmaship Award went to the team representing the Middle Illinois Tennis Association.
 
Boys’ and Girls’ 14 District Team Cup, Boys’ and Girls’ 12 District Team Cup
 
The Boys’ and Girls’ 14 District Team Cup competition returned to Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind. Ohio Valley defeated Chicago in the finals. Southeast Michigan came in third, and the Central Indiana team finished in fourth place.
 
The Boys’ and Girls’ 12 District Team Cup was again played at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind. Chicago defeated Central Indiana in the finals, with Western Michigan in third, followed by Wisconsin.
