Midland Junior Grand Slam Tournament

Midland Jr. Grand Slam Cup

The weekend of May 11–13 saw the juniors of NEMTA compete in the Midland Jr. Grand Slam Cup held at the Midland Community Tennis Center. This was the first outdoor tournament of the junior season in NEMTA as the competitors had to brave some chiily and windy conditions. A total of 40 juniors participated in this level 3 district event.

For the girls, the G14 division was won by Kelli Close who defeated Katie Close 7-6 (3)/6-1. The G14 consolation bracket was won by Meghan Woody who defeated Margaret Jensen 6-7 (5)/6-1/1-0 (16). The G12 division was run in a rounrobin format and won by Gabriella Jensen. The G10 division was won by Christina Auyeung who defeated Alyvia Jones 6-1/6-0. The G10 consolation bracket was won by Eanna McAdon who defeated Paige Cooley 3-6/6-4/1-0 (11).

For the boys, the B14 division was won by Santiago Guerra who defeated Alekzander Davila 6-3/6-2. The B14 consolation bracket was won by Austin Woody over Kevin Winegar 5-7/6-4/1-0 (2). The B12 division was won by Julian Guerra who defeated Zackery Phillips 6-1/6-4. The B12 consolation bracket was won by Luke Mills who defeated Mark Gorte 6-1/6-0. The B10 division was won by Johnathan Small who defeated Michael Roehmer 7-6 (5)/6-2/1-0 (12).

The next NEMTA district junior competitive tournament is the NEMTA Qualifier June 8–12 at the Midland Community Tennis Center. This is a level 1 district event. For those just getting started in junior competitive tennis the 2007 Novice Circuit Championships will be the following weekend May 18-20 at the Genesee Valley Tennis Club.
